Community Arts Program (CAP) 2024 Summer Concert Series Announced - Benefiting Youth At Over 50 Miami-Dade County Schools.

Community Arts Program (CAP)
2024 Summer Concert Series
A Cultural Tradition
In South Florida
An outstanding Summer Concert Series
line-up for its 39th year!

CAP Summer Concert Series
at
The Historic
Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ
3010 De Soto Boulevard, Coral Gables, FL 33134

This summer at 7:30 p.m. every other Thursday—June 13 through August 22—the Community Arts Program (CAP) Summer Concert Series returns for its 39th year. In the historic, Spanish-revival style setting of Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ (directly across from the Biltmore Hotel), concertgoers have the unique opportunity to not only hear music by incredible classical and jazz musicians. Attendees also learn more about the music and each artist’s journey with music.

Since 1985, the Community Arts Program (CAP) Summer Concert Series has been attended by more than 70,000 concertgoers. It is a time-honored tradition that continued with virtual broadcasts to the world throughout the pandemic summers of 2020 and 2021, and gathered an average of 7,500 views each summer. This developed an extended audience that CAP is excited to welcome on-ground again in the summer of 2024!

Throughout the school year, the Community Arts Program (CAP) also provides after-school music education with the CAP Conservatory for the Arts and its Miami Jazz Institute. These reach children and youth from over 53 Miami-Dade County Schools, no matter what students’ circumstance or ability.

The Community Arts Program (CAP) Summer Concert Series is a rare opportunity to hear world-renowned artists in the intimate and beautiful Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ,” says Shelly Berg, Dean of the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. “The CAP Conservatory for the Arts provides high-quality music education to children, many of whom would otherwise be denied access to the wonder of music and the beauty of the artistic spirit.”

We are very excited to welcome concertgoers on-ground again, and with the usual line-up of incredible artists this summer,” says Mark Hart, Executive and Artistic Director of the Community Arts Program. “It’s an honor also to welcome concertgoers locally, from across the States, and the globe; and a reward as well to see the growth of our after-school music education program for all children and youth.

The North Central Florida Blues Society is excited to bring EG Kight to Heartwood Soundstage in Gainesville FL for a solo acoustic show.

Over the years EG KIGHT has emerged as a preeminent voice in roots music. CityBeat Cincinnati writes that Kight is “a cross between Bonnie Raitt’s bourbon-stung growl and Phoebe Snow’s emotive warble.”   In her 25+ years in the Blues, Kight has entertained on stages around the world with the likes of George Jones, Jerry Lee Lewis, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Luther Allison, Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins, Taj Mahal, B.B. King, and Koko Taylor. She has received 19 various music industry nominations, including nine for Female Artist of the Year, three for Song of the Year, and four for Album of the Year.  And her 2023 release, STICKS & STRINGS, was nominated for the 2024 Blues Music Award for Acoustic Album of the Year.

Kight is an indisputable triple threat – as singer, songwriter, and guitar player – with her own unique blend of “country flavored southern fried Blues”, her music appeals to fans across the genres. Her songwriting is a true strength, evidenced by her original songs being recorded by Koko Taylor, Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women, Dorothy Moore, and Ann Rabson & Bob Margolin, among other luminaries.

“…a real gem, one of a handful of artists who reach out and make a personal connection with the audience.  Her warm personality, humor, harmonies with her trio, and stellar songwriting cut across the Blues spectrum, all delivered with a dynamic stage presence.”
- Gary Anton, Bradfordville Blues Club, Tallahassee, FL.

NCFBS is proud to have friends Bear & Robert in this show! Bear & Robert (row-bear) are Cindy Bear and Franc Robert, an award-winning singer-songwriter duo from Jacksonville, FL. Cindy was one of eleven national artists selected to perform in the recent SOLD OUT 6th Annual Women in Blues Showcase.

Together their acoustic sound has been described as a deep well of Folk, Blues, and Americana with a high-energy Je Nais Se Quois! Their catchy melodies, toe tapping rhythms, and soulful lyrics will touch your heart in many different ways, and will always leave you wanting more. Their CD, “Hearts in Blues,”  Franc’s solo and band CDs, and Cindy’s solo CD “Start Over Again” are available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and at shows.
