The 3-2-1 Jazz Orchestra and Space Coast Big Band will face off once again this year for a “Battle of the Bands”
concert at 7 p.m. on May 14, 2025, at the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 E. Hibiscus
Blvd. The concert is FREE, and doors open at 6 p.m.
"It’ll be twice the bands for
twice the fun,” said 3-2-1 Conductor Kurt Schulenburg. “Our audience members really
enjoyed this format last year, so we decided to reprise it with a whole new
selection of music, including arrangements and original works by members of
both groups.”
“The Space Coast Big Band will
feature professional players from all over Central Florida, including singer
Aolani, known for her work at Heidi's Jazz Club,” said Joel Greenblatt,
director of the group.
The two groups will showcase Big
Band arrangements in a variety of styles, covering tunes from the last 100
years of jazz. As a bonus, Guitarist Phil Coe (3-2-1), Conductor Kurt
Schulenburg (3-2-1) and Trumpeter Anthony (“Spider-man”) Agatiello (3-2-1 and
Space Coast Big Band) will all present completely new works.
“Since Agatiello plays in both
groups, it's appropriate that his swinging version of the Itsy-bitsy Spider
will be played by both groups as they join forces for several tunes in the
finale,” added Schulenburg.
The Concert Café format for the event
enables the audience to select from traditional theater-style or table seating.
There is also room to dance for those so inclined. Food and beverages may be
purchased on site from City Bistro.
