French-born singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Vincent Raffard brings the atmosphere of a Paris jazz club to the stage with the French Swing Collective. Raffard, founder of the French Horn Collective, is known for blending the music of his native France with traditional jazz and the enduring influence of American swing.
The group’s broad repertoire draws connections between French popular music, the spirited swing associated with guitarist Django Reinhardt, and the music of American jazz figures including Fats Waller and Duke Ellington. The result is a lively meeting of French style and American jazz traditions, led by Raffard and an accomplished group of musicians.
Paris in September invites the audience to imagine an evening along the streets and cafés of Paris, where French songs and melodies mingle with jazz rhythms, improvisation, and swing.
