Enjoy an evening of live jazz with The Eighth Note Collective as part of the City of Apopka’s April Saturday Sounds concert series. The group presents a mix of jazz standards and original compositions led by trombonist Derrick Harris, joined by Caila Carter, Paul Chong-You, Jose Figueroa, Ed Krout, and Rion Smith. Their program blends traditional jazz with elements of blues and Latin rhythms.
Also appearing is Josephine Swing, a big band ensemble of alumni from the Orlando Youth Chamber Ensembles under the direction of Santiago Parra-Romero. Their performance features classic swing arrangements along with newer original works.
The evening will be hosted by Sterling Stevenson, known as “The Voice of Bragg” at Bragg Memorial Stadium and host of The Top 10 Countdown on Soul95.com.
Amphitheater seating is available, along with food trucks and a local artisans market. Guests may bring picnic baskets and coolers for lawn seating.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated April 30 as International Jazz Day to recognize jazz as a global art form that encourages dialogue among cultures and promotes mutual understanding.
Funding is provided by The Recording Industry’s Music Performance Trust Fund (MPTF), supporting public access to live music and music education initiatives.
HAPCO Music Foundation works with young people to develop skills in music, culinary arts, and other disciplines, helping support educational and career pathways. Programs operate in Florida, Texas, and Georgia.
