NOT ABLE TO ATTEND,
BUT ABLE TO HELP?

BackroomLive Miami Cats

Backroom Live at The Fish House Miami is a venue where Live Music lives since 1996.  As a coincidence we opened the business on Elvis Presley’s birthday,  an omen for the amount of music we would present in the future.

Since the March 17, 2020 #stayhome mandate, there are about 100 canceled gigs and musicians out of work from our line up.   As you might know by now,  we present Jazz Wednesday,  Blues Thursday and rotational musicians during the weekends.

The donations will be distributed on your behalf to the artists that were scheduled to perform during this time.  If there is a surplus we will continue disbursements to any former artist who has performed in the past in BackroomLive like David Leon, Melinda Rose Rodriguez, Aurora Natrix, Joey Gilmore to mention a few.

Some of our regular Jazz Cats who will benefit are Marc Berner, Peter Betan, Federico Britos, Ahmed Barroso, Brev Sullivan and Blues musicians like Darrell Raines, George Caldwell,  Janey Wish, Motel Mel also who kept weekly gigs doing the Blues Jam on Thursday’s at BackroomLive.

Thank you for your donation and supporting our local artists.

Angela Rivero, BackroomLive Manager

Florida Harmonica Championships in New Smyrna Beach CANCELLED for 2021

A mainstay event on Florida's east coast in the idyllic beachside town of New Smyrna Beach, the Florida Harmonica Championships has cancelled the blow-out for 2021 and is looking forward to 2022.

This would have been the 16th year of this good-spirited competition that originated the large-scale celebration/gathering of all things harmonica that brought people together to play, listen and party in the South East US.  2020's event was cancelled due to COVID.

As per Farley Palmer, founder and host, in a Facebook post of June 23, 2021, "…we’re not done but have to find a new venue…maybe some format changes…"

Special guests/judges over the years have included such internationally touring artists as Little Mike of Little Mike and the Tornadoes, Rockin' Jake, Brandon Santini, Ben Prestage, Lee Oskar and the famous Florida Bluesman, "Real Deal" Willie Green (R.I.P.).

Founded and still hosted by Adam Floyd and Farley Palmer in 2005, the event grew to featuring 20 contestants and performances by the special guests and closing with a band performance. The Championship is not genre-limited and presents awards in the categories of Best in Show, Creativity, Showmanship and Technical Ability, with winners  hailing from across Florida, the US and even a Best of Show winner from France.

The Beachside Tavern location provided easy access, inside and outdoor seating/performance space, and set the tone for a great event with music loving people that came for the music and stayed for the good times. And, yes, the attendance may have out-paced the capacity at time or two - always a good sign for an event growing in popularity and renown.

Keep an eye on their WEBSITE or FACEBOOK page for updates and more information.  Jazz & Blues Florida will have current information on the Festival Listing Page at www.JazzBluesFlorida.com as soon as dates are set for 2022.

for MidCityMessenger.com

JEFF WATKINS was scheduled to perform throughout this 6-day event will not be able to make it as he's hospitalized in New Orleans. Doctors are running tests to ascertain exactly what his situation is, but it's serious enough to sideline him for at least a few weeks. Without being able to work right after coming through the year long gig drought of COVID, he needs some help to move into his new home after moving everything out of his last place. Counting on the pay from performing at the Grand Opening/20th Anniversary and gigs with New Orleans Suspects following that to move in, he has now lost those funds. Consequently ALL of the musicians participating this week are donating all of the cash from YOUR tips and donations to Jeff in order to help him stay on his feet while undergoing tests and treatments. We're all wishing him a speedy recovery. PLEASE come support live music AND Jeff Watkins!!! And please be generous in supporting a man who has brought you all stellar music for decades. Can't make it? Want to kick in something extra? Here is the GOFUNDME LINK.

It's also the GRAND OPENING of its latest location! Alligator Alley Native Florida Beer Garden is now open in Margate FL at 238 US 411/Florida State Rd. 7, just 300 meters south of Atlantic Blvd on the east side.

June 22, 2001 was the opening day of the first independent Alley so June 22, 2021 is its 20th Anniversary, and the perfect date for the new location's Grand Opening. There'll be live music every night of the 5 day long celebration from Tuesday 6/22 until Sunday 6/27.
