Pay Tribute to Legendary Performer

RACHELLE FERRELL

Virtual Benefit Concert (TONIGHT)

May 27 @ 8 PM ET/5 PM PT

Iconic Jazz and R&B singer, songwriter, and musician Rachelle Ferrell, whom Quincy Jones describes as one of the best voices of an era - will be celebrated on the rebroadcast of her 60th birthday, TONIGHT (May 27) at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT by friends and fans the world over with a star-studded virtual tribute: Peace On Earth - Part 1.

Ferrell's team chose this occasion to also shine a light on the work of the

Jazz Foundation of America, which advocates for the wellbeing of artists - the often unacknowledged healers of our society - with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the JFA's Musicians' Emergency Fund.

Peace On Earth - Part 1, titled after Rachelle’s moving composition, is a benefit concert dedicated to the movement of music that unites the masses.

The benefit concert is FREE to watch, share, and most importantly, to come together to join in the celebration. This is about giving love and thanks to Rachelle and so many others who get us through our lives with their music. If you can, give some love back by making a donation. They need us now!

We are halfway to our goal of $100,000!

To make a donation (of any amount) to Rachelle's BPGE (Best Paid Gig Ever) Fund and to support the JFA's Musicians' Emergency Fund, please click here.

About The Jazz Foundation

For 32 years, the Jazz Foundation of America (JFA) has been keeping jazz, blues and roots, alive by helping the musicians who have played the soundtrack to our lives. With compassion and discretion, the Jazz Foundation makes it possible to pay someone's rent and keep them from eviction or homelessness when illness, accident, or old age prevents them from working. Our social work services and Musicians' Emergency Fund provide housing assistance, pro bono medical care, disaster relief, and financial support to musicians and their families in times of crisis. During the pandemic, JFA has provided assistance in more than 10,000 cases. Through our Jazz and Blues in the Schools and Gig Fund performance programs, we create purpose and dignified employment for hundreds of musicians every month and bring free concerts to thousands of underserved audience members at public schools, hospitals, nursing homes, museums, parks, libraries and community centers across the country. Whatever the need is, we don't just fix the problem, we heal it with love.

Bill Grisolia Bio
Musician, Leader, Composer, Impresario
Bill's concert act, the New Blues Revolution, leads the vanguard of the new blues movement in the U.S. (think Black Keys, White Stripes, Joe Bonamassa and John Mayer).   They play festivals, concerts and top night clubs in the US and internationally.  In 2020, they sold out a NYE show with Los Lobos and the first-ever music concert at the new Aquarium of the Pacific concert hall (Bill co-produced the show).

This concert act opens for a diverse range of music legends including Los Lobos, Macy Gray, Leon Russell, Canned Heat, the Lowrider Band (War), the Tubes, Bobby Rush, Lee Rocker and the late Dick Dale.   Awards include Best Americana Blues single at the LA Music Awards, Nominee for Group of the Year, LA Music Awards, a City of Long Beach Recognition Award and 2nd place at the Hollywood Talent Show for Bill’s song, “Rosarita”.

His festival appearances include the Red, White & Blues Festival, the New Blues Festival (3 cities), the Latin Jazz & Blues Festival, the Arab American Festival, Santa Clarita Blues Festival, Freedom Festival and the FC Festival at Irvine Lakes.  Summer Concerts include Long Beach, Lakewood and the Alameda County Fair (SF Bay Area).  High in demand, Bill is frequently asked to perform residencies including in the last year, the Renaissance Hotel, Roscoe’s (aka Cotton Club/Seabird Jazz Lounge), Supply & Demand and Roe Restaurant.  A favorite of critics, the New Blues Revolution receives rave reviews from national trade magazines such as Cashbox and Music Connection.  Critics recognize NBR’s exciting talent and extraordinary songwriting.

Bill was the only West Coast artist to appear in the Music Connection magazine feature article in the 2020 EOY issue.  The LA Music Awards asked Bill to Host the Red-Carpet stage.  Bill’s song “Heart of America” was added by Armed Forces Radio to play in 175 countries and selected by the American Red Cross Los Angeles Chapter for a video to be played at the Forum for a Wave radio station concert.

Bill’s live set features songs from the “Blue Café” CD, which features guest guitarist Michael Landau (Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Barbara Streisand) and pop vocalists Lowen and Navarro.  The CD was produced by multi-platinum producer/arranger, Barry Fasman (Dianna Ross, Billy Joel, Air Supply) and mixed by John Thomas (Don Henley, Bruce Hornsby).

Bill has opened for a diverse range of music legends including Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach, Johnny Mathis, Blood Sweat & Tears, Three Dog Night, Starship, Rick Derringer, David Lindley, Tab Benoit, Michael Schenker and Katey Segal.
The band’s exciting live show makes for great TV.  Television appearances include live satellite broadcasts from New York City to prime-time television in Spain.  Broadcast performances in major U.S. television markets (UPN in Los Angeles) confirm the appeal of the band's music across the U.S.  Los Angeles television appearances include KNBC, KCAL, KCOP and KMEX including the #1 morning show in the LA market.

Current discography includes 5 CD’s, 4 Cassettes and two 7” singles and he is at work on new recordings.

Reverend Billy C. Wirtz is a comic genius, gifted pianist and American musicologist who defies easy classification. “I like to think of myself as the Victor Borge of the blues,” states the Reverend, but Billy goes way beyond Borge both in scope of subject matter (from politics to social commentary) and, of course, in taste. In fact, no theme is too extreme, taboo, or undignified for the Reverend, so long as it garners a good laugh.

The duo Middleground consists of Barbara and Mark Armbrecht and is the product of over 40 years of collaboration between these two professional musicians. The music has evolved over the years to now include an eclectic mix of folk, pop, blues, ragtime and classic favorites, all of which have been flavored by Barbara’s finger picking style, use of open tunings and occasional use of slide and supported by Mark’s solid and expressive bass technique.
