JAZZ IN THE KEY OF ELLISON

Narrated and hosted by Roxane Gay

Featuring: Will Downing, Nona Hendryx, Quiana Lynell,
Nicholas Payton and the Andy Farber Jazz Orchestra

Great stars perform music that inspired Ralph Ellison, acclaimed
Pulitzer Prize winning author of Invisible Man and accomplished
trumpeter, from Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington,
Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Ray Charles and Nina
Simone! Black American music was central to Ellison's life and
to his stories. Join us for a special evening of live music inspired
by the jazz world he loved and knew so well. There will also be
readings from Ellison’s eloquent writings, and dazzling images
from renowned visual artist and long-time friend of Ellison's,
Romare Bearden, along with rare video clips.

Jazz in the Key of Ellison will feature acclaimed R&B and jazz
vocalist Will Downing, Labelle star Nona Hendryx, Grammy
Award-winning jazz trumpeter/composer Nicholas Payton, the
2017 Sarah Vaughan jazz vocal competition winner Quiana Lynell,
and the Andy Farber Jazz Orchestra.
