*NOTES ON BLUES WARRIOR
Hello everyone!
We will be putting out our new CD Blues warrior in the spring or early summer. I am hoping for June 1, 2018 or sooner with early distribution at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis on May 10th.

This CD is called Blues Warrior. Content was inspired by personal stories of adversity and my life experiences and include social topics such as homelessness, addiction, domestic violence and human trafficking that have affected me deeply.

Stolen is a song about human trafficking. While driving through the desert in a very remote area near New Mexico while touring I saw a rest stop women's bathroom door with a  lock on the outside and sitting in the parking lot was a white van. I wasn't alone and I noticed the lock but was scared. The experience rattled me and made me aware of human trafficking. I also started noticing posters in many of the bathrooms around the country trying to help. Watching videos and learning more about those who have been stolen we wrote Stolen. Listening to the play back I sobbed and my mom couldn't even listen to the whole thing.

Snow Fall is a song about heroin addiction. Tim is a board member on NurseNBlues headed by Patti Parks and that has brought more insight into this horrible addiction. As we learn more and more about young adults and heroin addiction we are devastated by the numbers and the statistics of young people in our country dying from heroin overdose. It's an epidemic, so we wrote the song Snow Fall.

The song about the homeless was inspired when I was walking home from the Daytona Blues Festival in the night after playing a wonderful event and I was walking across the bridge and I saw old homeless men and women rolled up in tarps sleeping against the bridge in the cold. They became invisible because they were tucked neatly against the wall and people driving by couldn't even see them. In the winter in Florida I also see a lot of homeless asking for money on street corners.

The song I domestic violence (I think it's called it’s called No Good Man but I will also get check that) is a song about a woman whose really beaten by her spouse and she decides to leave him.  For those paying attention, this social and community ill is too-wide spread not be recognized and called out and stopped when seen.

Cabrini Green is a song about the loss of community in Chicago when they tore Cabrini-Green down. I was living near there an often visited Chicago throughout College and watched us they demolished the buildings. What really wasn't talked about was how it destroyed the generations and community of that area mostly for greed. The song is blues rock song, 1 -4 -5 progression with heavy guitar.

CHEMO was inspired by Candye Kane and her fight and loss of life from cancer. I watched her fight for her life in the most noble and strong way. My heart goes out to Laura who lost the love of her life. It is also dedicated to two people that I lost from cancer my Grandma Kelly and Joyce Hanken. Chemo is a terrible song it is dark and horrible with a loss of life at the end. True blues.

My Little Honey Bee is a Love Song that includes making honey in the bed, a funny happy little song that helps balance the whole CD with its dark topics.

We will be going out on tour for June and July supporting the CD and playing all over the country. Doug Tackett is AMAZING and booking the Bridget Kelly Band now.

Much love to you all. Hope to see you out there.

FLORIDA THEATRE IS RANKED #1 TOP TOUR STOP IN FLORIDA

*Florida Theatre is a client of Jazz & Blues Florida - We work with the BEST!*

FLORIDA THEATRE IS RANKED
#1 TOP TOUR STOP IN FLORIDA

VENUESNOW RANKING COMPARES ALL
VENUES STATEWIDE UP TO 2,000 SEATS

The historic, nonprofit Florida Theatre in downtown Jacksonville has been recognized by VenuesNow magazine as the #1 “Top Stop” in Florida for 2018, for all venues with up to 2,000 seats.

The designation honours the Florida Theatre as one of the most important stops in the state for touring artists. The venue rankings were determined by attendance from June 1, 2017 through April 31, 2018.

VenuesNow is a leading international trade publication that covers the business side of entertainment and sports, particularly as it relates to venues. The designation honored the Florida Theatre’s “Outstanding performance!”

The Florida Theatre’s attendance of 140,323 during this period bested the 1,871 seat Barbara Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers with attendance of 137,944; the 1,741 seat Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota with attendance of 133,201; the 1,168 seat Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale with attendance of 63,003; and the 800 seat Capitol Theatre in Clearwater with attendance of 46,486. The Florida Theatre seats a capacity of 1,944.

The Florida Theatre also presented the most shows during this period, with 134 taking the historic theatre’s stage, as compared to 109 at the Barbara Mann, 96 at the Van Wezel, 79 at Parker Playhouse and 90 at the Capitol Theatre.

Florida Theatre Vice President of Programming Kevin Stone said, “’The ‘Top Stop’ designation validates the work we’ve been doing to improve our offerings across all genres of music, dance and theatre. If you are a touring artist working in Florida, the Florida Theatre has become an important part of any serious tour itinerary.” Stone is responsible for booking the Theatre’s performances.

Numa Saisselin, President of the Florida Theatre said, “Jacksonville is becoming a serious entertainment center not just for North Florida and Southern Georgia, but for the entire State of Florida. We’re pleased to play an important part in that effort with our partners, and our brother and sister venues and arts organizations in Jacksonville.”

The historic, nonprofit Florida Theatre is sponsored by Community First Credit Union. For a complete list of upcoming events or to buy tickets visit the Theatre’s official web site floridatheatre.com.

Florida Theatre : From ballet and opera to contemporary pop, jazz, rock, country and blues the nonprofit Florida Theatre offers 200 cultural and entertainment events annually for every taste and age. More than just an entertainment center, The Florida Theatre is also home to graduations, awards ceremonies, lectures, business meetings and charity events that support the community’s schools, churches, hospitals and civic groups. As an anchor to downtown development along the beautiful St. Johns River, The Florida Theatre draws 250,000 people to Jacksonville’s center each year. The magnificently restored Florida Theatre is recognized as one of the finest concert venues in the Southeast. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Florida Theatre holds special memories for four generations. From the Vaudeville acts and silent films of its earliest days to today’s blend of performances of all kinds, The Florida Theatre has served as Jacksonville’s premier entertainment center since 1927.

Heidi's Jazz Club in Cocoa Starts June Off with Shows on the 1st and 2nd Featuring Jesse Jones Jr & Terry Myers

26 Years of Being
FLORIDA's JAZZ CLUB!
Designated by DownBeat Magazine
as one of the world's top 2017 jazz venues!

Friday, June 1, 2018 ~ 8:30pm, $15 Cover
Saturday, June 2, 2018 ~ 8pm, $15 Cover
Jesse Jones Jr. & Terry Myers
Jesse is a soulful player and entertainer out of Miami, Florida that has it all. Jones has been performing internationally for over 20 years sharing his musical talent in places in Russia, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, etc.

Through the many years of performing, he has performed with Donald Byrd, Blue Mitchell, Dexter Gordon, Joe Williams, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eartha Kitt, Clark Terry, Allan Harris, Ira Sullivan, Melton Mustafa, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Monty Alexander, to name a few.

He combines the hard-bop influence of Cannonball Adderley, the funk of Hank Crawford, and the sweetness of Paul Desmond. Their influences may be detected within Jesse's riffs. Add to that some of the most unusual "scat" jazz singing when Jesse sings "straight" or through his horns, and the jazz audiences go wild. The humor is international in scope since these are not words but rather sounds that move and groove with the music.

Terry Myer's, dynamic career has enabled him to appear with such talented players as Tommy Dorsey Orchestra (Buddy Morrow), Bob Haggert, Milt Hinton, Butch Miles, Warren Vache', Kenny Davern, Marty Grosz, Major Holly, Mousey Alexander, Flip Phillips, Walt Lavinsky, Bill Allred, John Allred, Wild Bill Davison, Chubby Jackson, Duffy Jackson, Rosemary Clooney, Eddie Higgins, Bobby Rosengarten, Larry Elgart, Vince Giordano, and a host of others.
