The North Central Florida Blues Society is throwing a birthday party for Bridget Kelly Band guitarist Tim Fik, and it will be a blues-rock guitar showcase with Albert Castiglia, Lil’ Ed Williams, Tim Fik and David Julia!!!

Albert Castiglia and Lil’ Ed & the Blues Imperials both got nominated for Blues Music Awards this year, and Tim Fik of the Bridget Kelly Band and David Julia will both compete in the 2018 International Blues Challenge.

The world-renowned Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials have been standing tall for almost 30 years. The band’s big sound, fueled by Lil’ Ed’s gloriously rollicking slide work and deep Blues string bending, along with his rough-edged, soulful vocals, is as real and hard-hitting as Chicago Blues gets. The Chicago Sun-Times says, “Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials are the hottest purveyors of bottleneck boogie to come out of Chicago since Hound Dog Taylor.” Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials is the most exciting, high-energy Blues band on the scene today and they have won numerous awards, including the Blues Foundation’s Band of the Year. The Chicago Tribune said “Electrifying, raucous, pure Chicago blues…Lil’ Ed is a guitarist extraordinaire…slashing slide and flamboyant stage persona.” Their raw-boned performance style is sure to make you move!

Albert Castiglia has developed into one of the more exciting talents to emerge on the Blues scene in a while. A guitar player full of fire, but also showing a considerable songwriting gift, Albert has gained the respect of hardcore Blues addicts and younger Blues-rockers alike.

Born in New York City and raised in Miami, Albert learned a lot by playing with Junior Wells, and he continues to grow as a player and performer. His last three studio albums, all on Ruf Records, have received the greatest rave reviews of his career so far. And this year he was nominated for the Contemporary Blues Male Artist award by the Blues Foundation.

“My drummer, Brian Menendez, is very dynamic and gives me that extra spark”, Castiglia said.” He’s along the lines of a Ginger Baker or Mitch Mitchell. Jimmy Pritchard is my bass player and he’s solid as a rock. His tone is fat and he’s right on time. When I hear him, I think of Bill Wyman or Calvin ‘Fuzz’ Jones. It’s a power trio with no boundaries or restrictions.”

The Bridget Kelly Band is a two-time semifinalist at the International Blues Challenge and their newest album, Bone Rattler, has been #1 on the Roots Music Review Electric Blues Album Chart for 20 weeks. Inspired by classic & electric blues, the Bridget Kelly Band has placed their unique stamp on the Blues-rock genre with high-energy live performances and a hybrid sound that mixes Texas Blues with various Southern Blues traditions. The sultry vocals of singer Bridget Kelly and incendiary lead guitar work of Tim Fik forge a signature sound that combines female urban blues with dynamic riff-driven blues, all held together by a rugged rhythm section. Fik has gained renown for his powerful guitar sound and fiery fretwork and he has even been called a “magician of the instrument” and a “pinnacle of artistry” in recent reviews, and praised for his tasteful tone, fluidity, and expressiveness.

Seventeen-year-old David Julia is more than a guitar prodigy delivering smokin’ spot-on lightning licks with killer grooves and rich vocals. David has been performing live since the age of seven and by the age of ten he had a regular Friday night gig at a local club. Despite only being in his teens, he’s already received comparisons to Kenny Wayne Shepherd and is being mentored by Bob Margolin, Muddy Waters long-time guitar player.

General admission is $20, with NCFBS members getting in for $10. Doors open at 6 pm, with the music starting at 6:15.
