Willie Jones III Quintet at Blues Alley June 28th - Coming to FT. Lauderdale & Ft. Myers Feb 2018

 Willie Jones III Quintet
Premieres at  Washington DC's
Premier Music Club
Tickets $30. 8pm show here and 10pm show here

In his first appearance at Blues Alley on June 28, 2017 (8pm and 10pm shows), jazz drummer, Willie Jones III brings together four of his world-renowned friends in an all-star jazz quintet. Joining Jones on stage are Terell Stafford on trumpet, Ralph Moore on saxophone, Eric Reed on piano and George Delancey on bass.

Following Blues Alley, the Willie Jones III Quintet returns to New York's famed Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center.

Jazz fans in the south can catch Willie on tour in Florida in February 2018 with planned dates in Ft. Lauderdale and Ft. Myers.f

Willie Jones III, Drums (Leader)
Ever since 1997, when he moved to New York City from Los Angeles, his hometown, Willie Jones III has been one of the jazz capital’s most prominent drummers. Whether functioning as a savvy bandleader or high-profile sideman, Jones applies to every context an abiding musicality and a tonal personality that, as Wynton Marsalis puts it, is “ever tasteful,” marked by what pianist Eric Reed, his frequent collaborator, calls “a West Coast swagger in his swing, with a looseness that isn’t lackadaisical and an edge that isn’t overwhelming.”

“I still follow Billy Higgins’ model,” Jones says. “I’m always trying to support whoever I’m working with to make the music sound as good as possible. I have a good balance. I’ll continue to evolve as a leader, but I’ll always play as a sideman—I still love learning and playing other people’s music.”

Terell Stafford, Trumpet
Terell Stafford, acclaimed trumpet player based in New York, has been hailed as “one of the great players of our time, a fabulous trumpet player” by piano legend McCoy Tyner. Stafford is recognized as an incredibly gifted and versatile player, he combines a deep love of melody with his own brand of spirited and adventurous lyricism. Stafford’s exceptionally expressive and well defined musical talent allows him to dance in and around the rich trumpet tradition of his predecessors while making his own inroads.

Ralph Moore, Saxophone
Ralph Moore has lived in the U.S. since 1970. He is a fine tenor saxophonist influenced by John Coltrane, but possessing a slightly softer tone. He moved to New York in 1981 and has recorded several fine albums for Landmark, Criss Cross, Savoy, and Mons (with the L.A. Jazz Summit).  He has toured extensively with J.J. Johnson, and since 1995, has been a member of the Tonight Show Orchestra in Los Angeles.

Eric Reed, Piano
Through more than a quarter-century as a first-caller on the jazz scene, Reed has articulated this inclusive conception as a leader of numerous ensembles, solo performer, composer, producer, educator and sideman with numerous artists. Whatever the context, whatever the style, he consistently animates the flow with fresh ideas, virtuosic chops, intellectual clarity and an unwavering will to groove.

George Delancey, Bass
A native of Cambridge, OH, and a student of such prestigious programs as the Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Michigan State University Jazz Studies Program, where he studied under Rodney Whitaker. He has worked with notable bandleaders Johnny O’Neal, Wessell Anderson, Willie Jones III, Philip and Winard Harper, Christian Howes, Houston Person, Tia Fuller, Bria Skonberg, as well as many others in New York and throughout the Midwest.

Attention Artists, Clubs,
Venues, Festivals, Agents!

Work has begun on the JULY issue of Jazz & Blues Florida and we are currently taking orders. We begin placements immediately on orders placed and paid for, so if we took your order for JULY today, you would receive the balance of JUNE exposure at no additional cost.

Package prices start at $120 per month, and every package includes full platform placements of: 1) Display ad in monthly magazine, 2) Banner ads, 3) News Blog posting with social media distribution, 4) Email blast, and 5) Premium listing. CLICK HERE for rate sheet.
  • Email me directly, Charlie@JazzBluesFlorida.com, to place an order.
  • The order deadline for the JULY 2017 issue is 6/24/17.
  • We are currently looking for Cover Features ($250) for SEPTEMBER and all of 2018. JULY, AUGUST, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER and DECEMBER are taken. Spotlight features ($50) are available every month. Please note a promotion package must be purchased in conjunction with all features.
Why a feature? Here is what Buddy Blue had to say that answers that:
“I’m the person on the cover for October (2015). It is October 6th today, meaning the magazine came out 6 days ago. My website monitors traffic, and I just checked that the traffic has increased 23% on a monthly average. That’s 6 days only. I can only imagine by the end of October. Furthermore, on this 6th day, I have so far received 2 calls for gigs, which will more than pay for what it cost me to advertise myself and my band. There is no “conspiracy” here. There’s no low-balling theft going on. There’s no trickery. This is business. Marketing and advertising at its best is what this is."
Best!
Charlie

Amit will perform on Pablo Casals’ exact cello, a Goffriller ca. 1733, personally handed to him by Casals’ widow. This promises to be an incomparable evening of music.
