Sunshine Jazz Organization (SJO) is pleased to announce the first Music in the Park presentation of 2016 on Friday, May 6, 2016, as Part One of the series co-sponsored by SJO with Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan and City of Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert III.  The free, bi-annual community concert presents South Florida’s finest live jazz and blues artists performing for the whole family under the stars in Miami Gardens. May 6th will be a very special “Family” affair, featuring the incredibly talented Mustafa Family including father and sons (Melton Mustafa, Sr., Melton Mustafa Jr., Yamin Mustafa), as well as uncle, Jesse Jones Jr. and lifelong family friend, Ms. Alice Day.

Award-winning Jazz vocalist Alice Day, affectionately known as “The First Lady of Jazz” in South Florida, is also founder of the South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame. Ms. Day will be joined by SFJHOF inductees Jesse Jones, Jr. on sax & flute and his brother, renowned trumpeter and educator Melton Mustafa.  The band will also feature Mustafa family members - sons Yamin Mustafa and Melton Rahsaan Mustafa. Yamin is terrific on trumpet, a great player, performer and music producer. Melton Jr. on sax is also a busy performer and music educator and director, with an M.A. in Education from FIU. There is also rumor of another Mustafa surprise guest appearance! Suffice it to say, this evening will be heartfelt, memorable, fun and very swingin’!

Join us for Music in the Park on Friday, May 6th from 6:30pm-9:00pm at the Amphitheater behind Betty T. Ferguson Recreation Complex 3000 NW 199th Street, Miami Gardens, FL 33056. The stage offers ample seating, snack bar and free parking.  For Info (305)474-3011; SunJazzOrg@aol.com.
