The monthly Sunshine Jazz Concert Series continues at Miami Shores Country Club, with the usual 4th Sunday switched to the 3rd Sunday to allow for Easter celebrations. Join us on March 20th as SJO presents featured artists The Wendy Pedersen Quartet. Performing new music from her recent CD release “We Two”, the band will feature long-time collaborator Jim Gasior on Piano with Jamie Ousley on acoustic Double Bass and Evan Hyde on Drums.

Wendy Pedersen is a South Florida favorite known for her sass, emotion and energetic vocal delivery. A graduate of UM’s Studio Music/Jazz Vocal program, Wendy began her singing career in high school. She has won many awards including Southern Bell/Pace “Jazz Artist of the Year”, and the Herald’s Leonard Pitts said “when she sings, her voice, an elegant, melismatic instrument, evokes the standard emotions, yes, but deeper longings and muted desires.” Doug Adrianson said, “...she can steam up your contact lenses from 100 feet away”. Pedersen adds to her discography with the release of “We Two”, a collaboration with close friend, Jim Gasior. The duo pay homage to the Great American Songbook with their own sense of feel on their first album together.

Jim Gasior is a respected musician, Interim Dean of Music at New World School of the Arts and director of their High School Jazz Ensemble. His performance credits include Freddie Hubbard, Benny Golson, Slide Hampton and Duffy Jackson. Busy young drummer Evan Hyde graduated from U of M’s Frost School of Music and Henry Mancini Institute, offering him opportunities to perform with legends like pianist Kenny Barron. Double Bassist Jamie Ousley is in-demand in South Florida. With an MA degree in Jazz Bass Performance from U of M, Ousley performs and teaches internationally.
