On Wednesday, February 10, the Gold CoastJazz Society will present the Delfeayo Marsalis Quartet as they perform a jazz program, Last Southern Gentlemen Tour.  The concert takes place at the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale at 7:45pm.  Single tickets are available for $55 per person.  Students and teacher tickets are $10 with valid ID.  To purchase tickets call the Broward Center AutoNation Box Office at 954-462-0222, online at www.browardcenter.org or www.goldcoastjazz.org

The Last Southern Gentlemen Tour pairs father Ellis Marsalis, Jr. with son Delfeayo to swing effortlessly through standards and original compositions.  Reginald Veal on bass and Marvin "Smitty" Smith on drums round out the quartet.

Delfeayo Marsalis is one of the foremost trombonists, composers and producers on today’s jazz scene.  According to Leonard Feather of the Los Angeles Times, Marsalis is known for his “technical excellence, inventive mind and frequent touches of humor.”  In January 2011, Delfeayo and the Marsalis family (father Ellis and brothers Branford, Wynton and Jason) earned the nation’s highest jazz honor – a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award.

Delfeayo has toured internationally with five renowned bandleaders including Art Blakey, Slide Hampton, Max Roach and Elvin Jones.  His compositions are influenced by Abdullah Ibrahim’s harmonies.  As a producer since the age of 17, Marsalis has produced over 100 recordings for major artists including Harry Connick, Jr, Marcus Roberts, Spike Lee, Terence Blanchard, Marcus Roberts, Adam Makowicz, Nicholas Payton, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the projects of Ellis, Branford and Wynton Marsalis.   He has composed over 80 songs that help introduce kids to jazz.  Lastly, he embraces music education and served as director of the Foundation for Artistic and Musical Excellence summer program in Lawrenceville, New Jersey (1998-2002), founded the Uptown Music Theatre in 2000, and founded the Kidstown After School program in three New Orleans grammar schools in 2009.
