I was 11 when...(...raconteur Allen Kanovsky recounts on Boogie Woogie Piano Blues, before hitting the rack...)

..."Caldonia" by Louis Jordan & the Tympani Five hit the charts.

I was crazy about boogie-woogie. Loved the beat and loved the way girls skirts would wave above their knees when the jitter-bugged. Last night Barrelhouse Chuck (Goering) brought back a flood of memories when he opened his show at Arts Garage in Delray Beach. It would turn into a great night of BLUES music. Shuffles, Chicago, N'Awlins, Boogie and just plain old BLUES. On stage for the opener with Chuck was Paul (Smiles) Shewchuk on bass, Orlando (Magic) Machado on drums and playing guitar along with vocals was Josh (no joke) Miller. Later on they would be joined by Jim McKaba doing some two fisted piano. Josh took the first solo and you knew you were going to hear some outstanding stuff. Chuck transitioned into a little bit of "C-Jam" and then came back home. Now to Bourbon St. and a bit of "Barrel House Woman". back is killing me ---to be continued.
A short note: The reason I write this is because I love music and words. I do not book acts. I do not promote acts. I do not accept invitations to review artists. I go to venues of my own choice. When and where is not influenced by anything other than who I would like to hear that night or day. If I don't like what I hear, I won't write about it. When I like it I let you all know. I never mention a name without asking permission. "Pardon me, Miss. Would you like to dance?"
