The New York Times claims that “Ms. Sutton is a pure jazz spirit” and the Chicago Sun Times says her voice is “soft as silk and smooth as fine bourbon.”   Sutton’s recently released CD, “Paris Sessions” is a 2015 Grammy contender for the” Best Jazz Vocal Album.”  Sutton has enjoyed five Grammy nods with three consecutive Grammy nominations for “Best Vocal Jazz Album” with her band, the Tierney Sutton Band.  In additional to her band’s appearances, Sutton has appeared as a guest vocalist on CD’s by composer Johnny Mandel, trumpeter Wayne Bergeron, and has headlined at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. An active educator, Sutton taught for over a decade at the USC Thornton School of Music and is currently the “Artist in Residence” at the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara and Head of the Vocal Department at the Los Angeles Music Academy.   Sutton has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with Shelly Berg, Dean of the UM Frost School of Music and has been a frequent performer for UM concerts.

Shelly Berg is acclaimed world-wide as a pianist, composer, and arranger and recently produced a new CD for local pop icon, Gloria Estafan.  A Steinway piano artist, Berg has performed and recorded with top music industry professionals and orchestrated music for television, motion pictures and major orchestras. The All Music Guide says “Shelly Berg is one of the finest pianists around in the early 21st century playing modern mainstream jazz.”  He recently recorded “Rhapsody in Blue” and other Gershwin selections with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and released a solo album, The Nearness of You (Arbors).  In 2014 Shelly Berg was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) for “What a Wonderful World” on Gloria Estefan: The Standards and was nominated for an additional Grammy as co-producer of the same album. He previously earned a Grammy nomination for his arrangement of “Out There” on Lorraine Feather’s Tales of the Unusual.
