On February 13, one of the most prominent and renowned musicians of our time, Arturo Sandoval, will join forces with the South Florida Jazz Orchestra for An Evening with Arturo Sandoval. Sandoval’s virtuosic technical ability and his brilliant multi-faceted style has garnered him nine Grammy Awards and the 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom.  His electrifying performances have included appearances with Celine Dion at the Oscars, with Alicia Keys at the Billboard Music Awards and with Justin Timberlake at the GRAMMY® Awards.  The South Florida Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Chuck Bergeron, will accompany Mr. Sandoval.

This concert is a part of the Gold Coast Jazz Society’s 2015 jazz series and will take place at the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale at 7:45pm.  A very limited number of single tickets remain at $50 per person.  To purchase tickets call the Broward Center AutoNation Box Office at 954-462-0222 or online at www.browardcenter.org

Arturo Sandoval was born in Artemisa, a town on the outskirts of Havana, Cuba, and began studying classical trumpet at the age of twelve.  While playing in the Cuban National Orchestra and the awarding willing Afro-Cuban group, Irakere, he had a fortuitous meeting with Dizzy Gillespie.  His amazing talent and love of jazz enabled him to form a deep friendship with Gillespie and become his protégé.  In 1981, Sandoval left Irakere to form his own band, which has garnered praise from around the world since.

Mr. Sandoval has been awarded nine GRAMMY® Awards and nineteen GRAMMY® nominations.  He has received six Billboard Awards and an Emmy Award.   With numerous recordings, he can be heard on recordings with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Rod Stewart to many others.  His most recent CD “Dear Diz (Every Day I Think of You) was released on the Concord Jazz label.

The South Florida Jazz Orchestra is a modern big band comprised of some of the most experienced professionals in the country who have performed and toured with many of the greatest artists in Jazz and Popular music. These musicians’ careers include tenure with the Big Bands of Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, and Maynard Ferguson, and artists from Stan Getz, Dave Grusin, and James Moody to Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, and Joe Williams.
