Nationally Acclaimed Dixieland Band to Headline 14th Annual Jazz-By-the-Bay Festival in Panama City Florida

14th Annual Jazz-By-the-Bay Festival

The 14th Annual Jazz-By-the-Bay Festival to be held at Oaks-By-the-Bay Park in St. Andrews on Oct. 17th and 18th will feature ten hours of jazz over two days performed by six jazz bands playing a variety of jazz styles.

This year’s festival is dedicated to the late Dr, Ralph Peterson, a long-time member and supporter of the Gulf Jazz Society, sponsors of the annual event. The festival, as usual, is free and open to the public and presented by the Gulf Jazz Society of Panama City, Florida.

Headlining the festival will be the Minneapolis-based Barbary Coast Dixieland Show Band, a nationally acclaimed ensemble that has played everywhere from the Mississippi paddlewheel boats and the Minnesota State Fair to Nagasaki, Japan, and in prestigious jazz festivals throughout the United States. Following its appearance at Jazz-By-The-Bay, the band will be featured at the Sun Coast Jazz festival at Clearwater FL in November.

Other artists scheduled at the festival are guitaist and vocalist Jimmy Ward and his Trio: Latin flautist and vocalist Stephanie Pettis and her Rio ensemble: Tallahassee pianist Bill Peterson and his Trio: the Pensacola State College Jazz Band; and popular vocalist Mike Stone and his Trio doing the Sinatra songbook.

The Barbary Coast Dixieland Show Band is made up of seven talented musicians who play 18 instruments. Led by left-handed banjo/guitar player Dick Petersen, the band includes Tom Andrews on drums, clarinet, and vocals; Jim ten Bensel on trombone, cornet, drums, and vocals; Russ Peterson on trumpet, trombone, sax, clarinet, flute, bass, and vocals; Steve Pikal on bass, trombone, and piano; Dick Ramberg on clarinet; and, the Panhandle’s own Bobby van Deusen on piano.

This group of versatile musicians, who occasionally swap instruments on stage without missing a note, will have your feet tappin' from their very first set!

  1. Still trying to get y'all to bring Tuba Skinny to St. Andrews. They are back in November by popular demand to the Jazz For Justice concert in Pensacola. My wife and I will be there. They are in Birmingham Oct. 13th and we'll also be there. I am not their booking agent, I am just a fan living in Marietta, GA. If you are interested in Tuba Skinny for next year 2023, please visit their website. www.tubaskinny.com Thanks!
