Since 1987 the band has starred in its own public radio series, Riverwalk Jazz, broadcasting and heard on Public Radio stations nationwide and on SiriusXM internet radio.

The concert will take place at the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale at 7:45pm.  Single tickets are available for $45 per person.  Students and teacher tickets are $10 with valid ID.  To purchase tickets call the Broward Center AutoNation Box Office at 954-462-0222 or online at www.browardcenter.org.  To learn more about this artist, go to his website at www.riverwalkjazz.org

“Jim Cullum leads one of the finest classic jazz/Dixieland bands…” said Scott Yanow of AllMusic.   The band has played to sold-out audiences from the Kennedy Center to the Austin City Limits music festival. They play in the classic manner, in the style of small, hot ensembles prior to WWII and their repertoire covers a lot of ground--from 19th-century cakewalks to the small pre-war Benny Goodman ensembles. Jim Cullum, the band’s leader, is a jazz cornetist who has been active mostly in San Antonio, Texas for over 50 years.  Beginning in a partnership with his late father, a clarinetist, Mr. Cullum also has specialized, developing an individual sound from the pre-World War II traditional jazz stylings.  He is influenced, though not dominated, by the playing of Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, Garner Clark and the blues singing of Bessie Smith.

As a young man Cullum and his father, a musician who played in the great jazz orchestras of Jack Teagarden, formed their own jazz band and invested in a jazz club called the Landing in the Riverwalk area of San Antonio, Texas. After his father’s death, Cullum continued the club, bringing in renowned jazz musicians to play with his house band.  Cullum’s band, when they are not on tour, continues to play regularly at the relocated Landing jazz club, now in the Hyatt Regency hotel.

One of the highlights of Mr. Cullum’s career, that has brought him national acclaim, is his development of and performance in Riverwalk Jazz.  This highly successful weekly radio program airs nationally on public radio.  His ability to educate, as well as entertain, has made his Riverwalk Jazz broadcasts a cornerstone in NPR circles.
