Jazz on the Green - Naples' Premier Outdoor Jazz Series Continues Sunday December 8, 2014

New location at Edison State College Collier Campus.

Bayshore Cultural and Performing Arts Center (CAPA) announces that the annual Jazz on the Green concert series will feature new contemporary sounds, and has a new home at the Edison State College Collier Campus. An expanded program with new talent will delight Southwest Florida jazz fans. Dan Miller, an internationally known jazz trumpeter, is producer of Jazz on the Green. He has created a program that includes contemporary jazz, acoustical jazz, and blues with a touch of Latin rhythms. 

The six FREE, open-air concerts by some of Naples' best-known and loved jazz musicians take place monthly on selected Sundays, November through April, from 2-4 p.m. Parking is free.  Food and cold drinks are available for sale from Dan’s Kettle Corn and Frozen Lemonade and Madam Mac.  Concertgoers should bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Danny Sinoff joined his first jazz band while still in high school, developing his unique vocal styling, inspired by Sinatra, Mel Tormé and Harry Connick, Jr. He has performed with The Brubeck Brothers Quartet, Jimmy McGriff, Sweet Georgia Brown and Jimmy Norman. Danny’s first studio recording brought him together with jazz and blues sax legend David ‘Fathead’ Newman, playing behind Danny’s vocals on “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me,” “Over the Rainbow,” and “Cry Me A River.”

Dan Heck is a professional jazz guitarist, bassist, recording artist, composer, educator, and founding member of the band Bebop and Destruction. He has appeared with many of music’s greats at New York City venues including Blue Note, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Kavehaz, Flute Bar, the Pierre Hotel, Cleopatra's Needle and the French Consulate.

Stu Shelton has been an active part of the Naples’ music scene for more than 20 years, performing nearly seven nights a week during season. He is known for his technique and dexterity, inventiveness and sense of swing. He also heads one of the best recording studios in Naples. His new group features Luis Brito on electric bass and Jimmy Blakemore Jr. on drums.

Steve Uscher Group
Steve Uscher is known for serving up soft, elegant, tropical flavored jazz on his nylon-stringed guitar at The Village Pub in Naples where he has been a late-night staple. Steve has classical roots, and enjoys playing jazz and Latin guitar. He has performed with Liza Minnelli, Harry Belafonte and Nina Simone as well as the Naples Philharmonic.

David C. Johnson has been part of the Southwest Florida music scene for nearly 25 years. He tours with the Aaron Neville Quintet as the band’s touring bass player. In the late 1970s, at the age of 11, Johnson picked up the bass at a time when funk and disco were popular. When not on tour, he plays with the band Mudbone at Weekend Willie’s in Naples, and performs his solo show at Key Lime Bistro on Captiva Island, Morgan

ERICH KUNZEL COMMUNITY CONCERT SERIES
Bayshore Cultural and Performing Arts Center (CAPA) announces that tickets are now on sale for the annual Erich Kunzel Community Concert Series. The six concerts in the series will take place on selected Fridays each month, December 2013 through May 2014. Experience classical, pops, opera and dance performances by series favorites and exciting newcomers! Performances are at 7 p.m. at a new location at Edison State College Collier Campus, Holland T. Salley Auditorium, 7007 Lely Cultural Parkway, Naples.

Enjoy an evening of inspiring piano performances by some of Southwest Florida’s most gifted artists. Michael Baron, concert pianist, official international Steinway artist, and professor of music at Florida Gulf Coast University’s Bower School of Music shares the stage with brilliant young pianist Priscila Navarro. Ms. Navarro is a senior piano performance major studying under Baron’s direction at the Bower School of Music. She made her Carnegie Hall debut March 7, 2013 with a solo recital, and has performed for audiences in the United States, South America, Italy and Poland. Steinway Piano Society Young Artist Winners, under the direction of Greg Billings, owner of Steinway Piano Gallery, also will be featured.

Showcasing her classical training, Rebecca Richardson performs with “ONcore,” the Opera Naples Young Artist Division and Naples Opera company members. Ms. Richardson, a graduate of Cornish College of the Arts and Juilliard School, has a career that encompasses both classical and jazz music. She has performed with the Seattle Symphony and the Civic Light Opera.

Wendy Willis directs this astonishingly different flute ensemble that includes the entire family of flutes — bass to piccolo — with arrangements from classical to popular selections. Chrysalis Chamber Players Founding and Artistic Director Mary Bowden notes that Chrysalis presents a wide variety of chamber music that allows the audience to experience a range of instrumental combinations in a single concert.

Hot off their April, 2014 Naples Music Club Scholarship Competition wins and their performances at the Winners' Recital, a selected group of outstanding first place scholarship winners will perform.  Also showcasing young talent is Seacrest Country Day School’s choral group, under the direction of Jodie DeSalvo.  These young vocalists and musicians aspire to develop their performance quality to a professional level and have performed from Naples, FL to Italy.
