R.I.P. Billy Mure. Florida guitar legend lays down his guitar after 97 years.

Billy Mure & Debbi Brown Murphy
With much sadness, we found out this morning of the passing of Billy Mure - a shining diamond that played among us, and for us, here in Florida. I spoke with Debbie Brown Murphy, his fiancĂ©e, and she related that he passed peacefully this past Wednesday in the care of  Hospice with her at his side.  Billy was playing his regular Sunday gig at Squid Lips in Sebastian Florida up to just four weeks ago. She related that when he came home from that gig and put his guitar down, he did not pick it up again, as he did daily for their whole time together. Even being named a "Guitar Legend" by Guitar Player Magazine never convinced him he didn't need to practice and learn each and every day into his 97th year. Yes, SUPERSONIC to the end...

The October edition of Jazz & Blues Florida has been dedicated to his memory.

I hope you had a chance to see his smile and hear his music. I have found some links that will give a glimpse of this amazing person:
