Jazz saxman, Harry Allen, has been called “the Frank Sinatra of the tenor saxophone.”  Jazz guitarist, Bucky Pizzarelli, has enjoyed a legendary career that has spanned six decades.  On Friday, April 13, 2012, these two celebrated performers will join forces for an evening of Jazz from the Great American Songbook with the Harry Allen Quartet.

The concert begins at 7:45pm at the Amaturo Theater, located at
201 SW 5th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
.  Single tickets are $40 and student tickets are $10 with student ID.  Tickets can be purchased through the Broward Center Box Office at 954-462-0222 or online at either http://www.goldcoastjazz.org/ or http://www.browardcenter.org/.  A pre-concert Jazz Riff jazz talk will be given by jazz radio personality Stu Grant at 7:00pm in the theater before the show.

Harry Allen has been a Swing Bros. recording artist with over thirty recordings to his name.  He has recently released a new CD, Rhythm on the River, on the Challenge Records label, which received a four star rating in the current issue of Downbeat Magazine.   Three of Harry's past CDs have won the Gold Disc Award from Japan's Swing Journal Magazine, and his CD Tenors Anyone? won both the Gold Disc Award and the New Star Award. His recordings have made the top ten list for favorite new releases in Swing Journal Magazine's reader's poll and the Jazz Journal International critic's poll for 1997.   Allen has performed at jazz festivals and clubs around the globe, frequently touring in Europe and Asia.  More information about Harry Allen can be found at his website at http://www.harryallenjazz.com/.

Bucky Pizzarelli, called the “complete jazz musician” has been a fixture in jazz and on the studio scene since the early ‘50s. His list of whom he has recorded or performed with is a virtual Who’s Who of jazz and the big band world.   Considered as one of the era's most solid rhythm players, Pizzarelli was in high demand, playing and touring with Benny Goodman, Zoot Sims, Bud Freeman, and Stéphane Grappelli, and, later, recording with George Van Eps, Carl Kress and George Barnes. His unique style and mastery of the seven-string guitar is considered to be unparalleled.

Tickets are still available for the April 13 performance.  For further concert information call the Gold Coast Jazz Society at 954-524-0805 or go online to http://www.goldcoastjazz.org
