This concert is their final fundraiser for their
trip to New York (May 4 – 7, 2012) for the
17th Annual Essentially Ellington High School
Jazz Competition. Essentially Ellington is a national
competition and is a part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center
Program headed by Wynton Marsalis. Last year,
DCA Jazz finished in
First Place
at this prestigious
competition considered to be the Super Bowl of
high school jazz competitions. The cost to bring the
students to New York is approximately $30,000.

This performance is also a call to the community
to help these students reach their fullest
potential with ticket proceeds benefiting the
Jazz Education Program at Dillard Center for the Arts.

Only 15 high school bands of over 100
who submitted audition tapes are selected.
This opportunity is a special one – one that the
students worked hard to earn. Please support these
young artists. Be proud of their accomplishments.
Please join us for sweet music and sweet treats!
