Blues Alliance of the Treasure Coast Announces IBC Local Competition Winners

The Blues Alliance of the Treasure Coast recently sponsored the “Playoff of Bands” to select a band to go to Memphis for the prestigious International Blues Challenge (IBC) held January 31st - February 4th.  The Blues Alliance is very proud to announce the two winners:  The Pitbull of Blues Band and Joel Zoss, who won as the solo act.  Congratulations!!!  Second place went to the very talented, David Shelley and Bluestone.

The playoff was held on September 25th at Mickey Finn's in Port St. Lucie.  The competing bands were: Joel Zoss, Cool Biz Band, The Pitbull of Blues Band, and David Shelley and Bluestone.

In order to compete in the playoff, bands have to be playing blues on a regular basis.  Blues' societies across the country hold these local playoffs with timed judging to simulate the actual participation in the IBC event.  Participants can be a band, or a solo, duo or youth act.  The judges were: Michael Schonbach, Mark Barnes, Mary Ann Stefanik and Lloyd Ennis.  They were highly qualified and hand-picked because of their blues' knowledge and credibility in either performing or for their work in the music industry.

The Blues Alliance would like to thank the excellent bands for competing, the extremely competent judges, and Mickey Finn’s for graciously hosting this very exciting event.  We’d also like to thank the volunteers and all of those who came out to support these terrific bands.  We look forward to the IBC competition, and we encourage blues’ lovers to attend the event in Memphis.  We will be hosting two fund-raising events prior to the IBC to help our bands with expenses to go to the event.  Congratulations once again to The Pitbull of Blues Band and Joel Zoss…we wish you the best of luck in Memphis!!!
