Review of "Traveling Fool" in Blues & Rhythm UK
“This is the third CD from New York based singer/guitarist Brad and his band. I have certainly enjoyed the previous two – no nonsense, unpretentious and un-flashy blues, with virtually any track fit to grace an old-fashioned juke-box; and ditto my comments re this one! Brad has honed his playing with the likes of Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and many others, and he can be heard on record with such artists as Floyd Lee, Little Mike & The Tornadoes, Hubert Sumlin and especially the late Pinetop Perkins, Brad's biggest inspiration.....

Stylistically, the fifteen tracks on this CD split roughly between two styles. Brad has shown a predilection for the urban sound of the 1920s and '30s on past releases, and he reprises it here – try 'How Long Blues', with its Hawaiian styled guitar break and mournful clarinet, or 'Diggin' My Potatoes', which hints at vintage Western swing, with some fine fiddle by Margey Peters, whilst 'Glad Rags' owes more to 1920s pop. Elsewhere he adopts a rocking blues/early rock'n'roll approach like the opening track; this one is very Chuck Berry, whilst the menacing sounding, heavy on the low strings and blasting sax closing instrumental is aptly titled for those who remember Link Wray. There are nods to Fats Domino ('Because I Love You That Way') and others such as Rosco Gordon, with saxman Jim Davis frequently blowing his brains out in classic fashion – and listen to the guys romp through J.B. Lenoir's 'Low Down Dirty Shame'. The criminally under-rated Bobby Radcliff guests on four numbers, and his stunning solo on that opening track clearly takes its inspiration from his early mentor Magic Sam, though I'd be hard-pressed to say just exactly why!....

All in all, this is a very fine, good-timing, and extremely entertaining set. As I said the last time I reviewed one of Brad's albums – more please!....”
