Diaspora Arts Coalition's 3rd Annual Awards Gala & Benefit to Honor Miami Cultural Supports

The Diaspora Arts Coalition is proud to present its 3rd Annual Awards Gala & Benefit, marking our 12th Anniversary. This event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. (Reception) 7:30 p.m. (Awards Dinner) at the Miami Shores Country Club, 10000 Biscayne Blvd in Miami Shores.

This celebration will honor Arts Policymakers, Media, Organizations, Arts Programmers; Artists and Advocates. The evening will also feature the launch of the “Chief Sandrell Rivers Arts & Education Scholarship” which will be a-warded to a graduating senior from her beloved Northwestern Senior High School and a first year freshman at Tennessee State University where she received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. In addition, the first “Chief Sandrell Rivers Woman of Excellence Award” will be presented. The 2010 DAC ARTS AMBAS-SADORS are: Miami Dade County Commissioner, Audrey Edmonson(District 3); City of Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson; Charles W. Cherry II, Esq. Publisher, Florida Courier; Robert G. Beatty Esq., Pubbisher, South Florida Times; Bobby R. Henry Sr., Publisher, Westside Gazette; Children’s Trust, Modesto E. Abety, President/CEO; Adrienne Arsht Center, M. John Richard, President/CEO; Alison Austin and Major Players, Inc. The evening will feature performances by International Steel Pan Vir-tuoso, Othello Molineaux; International Record Artist and DAC President, Johnny Sanders; the Sunshine Jazz Organization of South Florida; Miami Edison Senior High Schools’ Red Raiders Chorus; Major Players Dancers and much more…

Diaspora Arts Coalition/DAC is a not-for-profit service organization that supports artists and arts organizations. The mission of DAC is to empower the arts community of the African American and Caribbean Diaspora to preserve its culture and heritage. This is achieved through education, marketing, advertising, performance, presentation, technical support, capacity building, audience development, training, artist development and advocacy.

Established in 1998, the organization serves as a voice for these entities. Its current membership is comprised of more than 200. DAC has been instrumental in helping to bring to fruition countless programs, events, arts and cultural happenings throughout South Florida and abroad.
