Memorial Benefit

1pm – until??
Island Spice Grill & Lounge

Melbourne, Florida 32901

A second Steve Thorpe Memorial Benefit has been planned for the local musical legend who passed away on Aug.19th. Steve made his living as a blues musician with the “The Steve Thorpe Blues Orchestra,” but bluegrass was his first love. Born and raised in Eastern Kentucky, his ties to bluegrass were strong. His soulful and emotional vocal delivery, along with his exceptional talent on the guitar and dobro titled him as one of Melbourne’s greatest bluegrass musicians. Steve performed with the “Penny Creek Band” beginning on Nov. 30, 2005 until three weeks before his passing. His presence in the band will forever be missed.

This benefit is a celebration of his life. Many of his friends have volunteered to perform from 1p.m. until late???. There will be lots of bluegrass and country music along with other genres. Featured musicians include Tina Eno and the Tours, The Bucketeers, Swampfox, The Queen Bees , Penny Creek, Dixie Hiway, Spacecoast Stringbusters, Patty and Frank, Atlantic Bluegrass, Train to Muelenbug, and there will be a big bluegrass jam at the end of the night for everyone.

A great number of people have volunteered to grill, sell tickets, help the sound team, and to sell drinks and food. The response to this benefit has been enormous!! A big thank you in advance to Tony Gugino, former owner of Mr. Tony’s, Louie Andrus owner of Lou’s Blues, Jimmy Shelton, owner of Ozzie’s, Vern Attwood, owner of V-Twin Restaurant, Suzy Leonard, features editor at Florida Today, and Chris Robinson, owner of Island Spice Grill & Lounge for their support and guidance. Grilled chicken with sides available while they last for a nominal fee, raffle tickets, 50/50 tickets, large silent auction, Steve Thorpe CD’s and lots of door prizes. The regular menu and a full liquor bar at Island Spice are available all day as well. A percentage of Island Spice food and beverage sales will go directly to The Steve Thorpe Assistance Fund. Admission is free. Donation bucket at the door. Please come out and join us this Sunday, October 3rd to help raise money in Steve’s honor. If unable to attend, contributions can be sent to: The Steve Thorpe Assistance Fund, P.O. Box 1933, Melbourne, FL 32902.

Please feel free to pass this on to others.
