FLORIDA JAZZ EDUCATORS HONORED

The Jazz Society of Pensacola honored local jazz educators for their efforts in teaching our youth America's Unique Musical Art Form-Jazz. At a dinner on March 8, 2010 the following jazz educators received certificates of appreciation from Crystal Joy Albert, spokesman for the Jazz Society.


Receiving honors were: Janie Walker, Ransom Middle School; Cynthia Domulot and Tim Walker, Bailey Middle School; Roger Villines, PJC;Joe Spaniola and Steve Ferry, UWF; Fred Domulot, Northwest Florida State College; Sandy Spivey, Cokesbury School for the Arts and Northwest Florida State College; and Joe Occhipinti, private instructor.


Honored in absentia were: Dr. Kyle Marrero, UWF; Pete Krostag, Pine Forest HS; Jay Spirakis, Navarre HS; Mitzi Bumbarger, Ferry Pass MS; Doug Holsworth and David Samuel, Escambia HS; Neal McLeod, Gulf Breeze HS; Lawrence Young, Jr., Washington HS; Mke Philley Tate HS; Don Snowden, PJC. Also honored were private instructors, Al Martin, Bob Maksymkow and Bobby Van Deusen.


Crystal Joy Albert, Jazz Society chair of the event said, "We are proud of the teachers who inspire the young musicians. We plan this awards banquet as an annual event. There will be a number of high school and middle school jazz bands as well as bands from PJC, UWF and NWFLState College on our main stage at the 27th annual free Pensacola JazzFest on April 10-11. Having our youth bands along with outstanding national jazz artists will make a great mix for our free festival in Seville Square.
