CORAL GABLES, FL, September 28, 2009 – Festival Miami 2009 will feature a diverse line-up of 20 concerts over the course of one month grouped into four themed categories: Great Performances, Creative American Music, Music of the Americas, and Jazz and Beyond.

The Music of the Americas concerts during Festival Miami 2009 will feature Claudia Acuña, Carlos Reyes, the IFÉ-ILÉ Afro-Cuban Dance Company, and Willy Chirino.

On Friday, October 9, 2009 at 8:00 pm in Gusman Concert Hall, Festival Miami will present Chilean singer/songwriter/arranger Claudia Acuña. The Los Angeles Times hails Acuña’s voice as an "instrument of wonder." Newsday proclaims she has "the voice of an angel." Acuña draws upon the culture of her homeland by fusing Latin rhythms with her instinctive jazz sensibilities. She discovered her first "outside" musical model, Frank Sinatra, at the age of 15. Acuña finally "felt at home" when she heard the music of Sinatra, Erroll Garner, and Sarah Vaughan.

On Thursday, October 15th, 2009 at 8:00 pm in Gusman Concert Hall, Festival Miami will present recording artist, producer, engineer, harpist, and violinist Carlos Reyes. His first album, The Beauty of it All, was on the Top-ten Contemporary Jazz charts in Billboard Magazine for more than 15 weeks. He has earned an international musical reputation and his enthusiastic following comes to his concerts wondering what surprise or new style of music he will bring to the stage. His charismatic personality, musical talent, and extensive repertoire are a potent combination. In addition to his evening performance, Reyes will work with Frost School students during a Master Class from 1:00pm to 2:30pm on October 15 in Gusman Concert Hall.

On Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at 8:00 pm in Gusman Concert Hall, jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval will perform a concert titled “A Time for Love.” Sandoval is winner of four Grammy awards, six Billboard awards, and an Emmy. This performance will feature students from the Henry Mancini Institute and Maestro Sandoval performing beautiful ballads from his upcoming Concord Records release.

On Friday, October 23rd, 2009 at 8:00 pm in Gusman Concert Hall, the IFE-ILE Afro-Cuban Dance Company will perform Afro-Cuban dances, Mambo, Rumba, Conga, Chancleta, Son, Salsa, and the ritual dances of the Orishas, or deities, of the Yoruba culture, and modern dance. This exciting Miami-based company has performed at the Latin Grammy Awards, Super Bowl, and the Billboard Awards, as well as the Smithsonian Institution's Folklife Festival and the Emancipation Celebration in Trinidad-Tobago.

On Saturday, October 24th, 2009 at 8:00 pm in Gusman Cnoncert Hall, Festival Miami will present Willy Chirino, one of the creators of the "Miami Sound" and master of the "Miami Salsa." Chirino is one of the most recorded singers in the world today. Many of his greatest hits immediately reached gold or platinum status, and he is universally regarded as a genius in combining Latin and American rhythms and styles. Honored by the U.S. State Department and UNICEF for his humanitarian work, he has performed with celebrated artists Celia Cruz, Victor Manuel, and Oscar De Léon.
